Many travelers in Costa Rica always ask about the rumors that the Caribbean is a dangerous place. This is a little bit of a gray area. The situation on Caribbean is the drug trafficking, but this is mainly an issue around the port of Moin or in the city of Limon where some may experience racism from some of the local that afro-caribbean, while further south you'll reach Manzanillo and Puerto Viejo where it's laid back and rastafarian/surfer place. In the north you have Tortuguero which is a tropical humid forest and has the most abundance of flora and fauna. It's also a great place for seeing turtles lay their eggs and if lucky see manaties or dolphins.
